Newcastle suffered a bit of a blip last weekend.

After losing their first two games of the season the Magpies looked ready to waltz away with the league after five straight wins but at home against Wolves they had another reality check.

The Midlands side took a 2-0 victory away from St. James’ Park in a game that reminded Rafa Benitez’s men that no game in the Championship is a foregone conclusion.

Funnily enough, the clubs then met again in the EFL Cup on Tuesday with Newcastle ringing the changes and gaining sweet revenge with a win of their own and that’ll leave Benitez with a number of decisions to make ahead of this weekend’s game against Aston Villa.

Who Benitez goes with is anyone’s guess but here at FootballFanCast we’ve had a crack at putting together a team that we think will win against the Villans…

Matz Sels

Sat out for the cup but should regain his place.

DeAndre Yedlin

Vurnon Anita is out and with Yedlin playing in the cup, he should start this weekend.

Jamaal Lascelles

The captain should be reinstated for this one.

Helped keep a clean sheet in the cup and could start against his former side.

Achraf Lazaar

Lazaar was decent in the game against Wolves in the cup and could make another appearance here.

Jonjo Shelvey

Benitez seems to like him, so he should play.

Jack Colback

Colback and Shelvey’s partnership looks decent so they should line up together again at the weekend.

Matt Ritchie

Ritchie has been in good form and so he should play.

Mohamed Diame

Diame has replaced Sissoko effectively and should play again against Villa.

Yoan Gouffran

Gouffran looks like Benitez’s preferred left-sided midfielder, so he should play.

Dwight Gayle

It’s anyone’s guess who Rafa plays up top but Gayle’s pace might be best to frighten the Villa back-line.
