Sheffield Wednesday fans are begging their club to sign Alex Lopez, as the Spanish midfielder is set to be released by his club this summer.

Sporting Gijon will release Lopez this summer, despite the 30 year-old still having a year left on his contract.

Lopez is a wonderfully gifted midfielder, and having spent a successful season on loan with the Owls in 2015-16, fans are praying they can bring him back.

Wednesday’s disappointing season has left the club with plenty of work to do this summer, and getting Lopez in on a free transfer would be excellent business.

Bringing in player of Lopez’s quality on a free transfer would of course help in more ways than one, allowing the Owls to spend their summer kitty elsewhere.

The 30 year-old Spaniard grabbed four assists during his loan spell at Hillsborough, and would be an improvement on the current crop of midfielders.
